I recently had the incredible
opportunity to join the Heritage Walk in Ahmedabad as part of the GLS First
Year Orientation Program. It was a fantastic way to immerse myself in the
city’s rich history and culture. We kicked off our adventure at the stunning
Kalupur Swaminarayan Mandir, a place brimming with intricate carvings and a
vibrant spiritual atmosphere.
As we strolled through the
bustling old city, we passed by historic pols and made stops at significant
spots like Kavi Dalpatram Chowk. There, we delved into the life of the renowned
Gujarati poet and explored his impact on literature and society.
We were captivated by the
beautifully crafted havelis that showcased traditional wooden architecture, and
we also visited the Share Bajar, Manek Chowk and the ancient masjid that
reflected the city’s cultural harmony. Each location had its own unique story,
and our guide was exceptional, sharing the historical and cultural importance
of each site in a way that was both clear and engaging. I’m really thankful to
our professors who joined us on this walk, offering their support and
encouraging us to take in everything around us.
On this special day of Guru
Purnima, I want to extend my heartfelt wishes to all my professors for
happiness and wisdom. As the beautiful Sanskrit shloka goes:
“गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः।
गुरु साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥”
This means, “The Guru is
Brahma, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru is Lord Maheshwara (Shiva). The Guru is
indeed the Supreme Brahman; salutations to that revered Guru.”
This walk not only deepened my
appreciation for the city’s heritage but also gave me a stronger sense of
belonging as a GLS student. It was a memorable way to kick off this new
academic journey!
Experience what the most modern and innovative academic institute has to offer.
